I recently bought a copy of Eats, Shoots and Leaves and while it's kind of amusing in places, I find Lynne Truss to be rather annoyingly absolutist in her proclamations. I get the feeling that she's the kind of person who would mark down English essays for rebelliously splitting infinitives or ending a sentence with a preposition.
One area where I do agree is in the careless use of quotation marks, especially as they can change the reading of a sentence completely. As a fine example of this I would like to present this picture right here, taken at Waterloo Underground station this morning.
