In the interest of decreasing the hit counts on my pages (which are pretty
darn low anyway - and with good reason. After all, who wants to spend hours
reading about some computer geek's obsessions?) I've assembled this rather
long list of links, which started growing as the BBC Technical Operations
Centre's links page when I worked there, and then transferred here when
I changed jobs. Yes, folks, this is the exit..
Visible light pictures are updated only during daylight hours (approx. once every hour),
whilst IR images are updated 24 hours a day. The UK and Western Europe images (C02/C03) are transmitted roughly every
half hour during daylight.
Other Meteorological Stuff
A new and somewhat good-looking resource for earth sciences in
general is UIUC's WW2010
project. Definitely worth checking out.
POLITICS
This lot have been here since the election, but are probably still useful.
You be the judge..
Labour are big on
buzzwords and have plenty of useful information (if you're willing
to hunt for it) but far too many pictures of Tony Blair. The teeth,
the teeth..
The Liberal Democrats
have, IMHO, the best designed site of the "big three" English parties.
You can even visit
the Tories who have a good press release section, but otherwise
seem.. well.. a bit negative about everything.
For sheer quantity of information,
the SNP site is pretty good, albeit with "celebrity endorsement"
photo-op in Sean Connery photo on front page. Am I the only person who
thinks that the SNP being in the .uk domain is marginally ironic? *grin*
While losing the battle in the "snappy logo" stakes, at least
Plaid Cymru (the Party of Wales) haven't
sold out by being in the .uk domain. And they were nice enough to
mail me when they moved their pages. What nice people.
The Natural Law
Party website was down when I tried to visit. I presume it's out
yogic flying, or something.
I was going to put a link to the British Nationalist Party here,
but doing so would acknowledge this bunch of thugs as being a major
political force, which they ain't. If you're desperate to find them,
use Yahoo. Instead, I'll point you towards
The Simon Wiesenthal Centre. In particular, their
Cyberwatch
pages are used for keeping an eye on the ways in which the Internet
is being used by neo-Nazi groups to spread hatred and bigotry.
There are stacks more links to political parties, be they normal,
single-issue, psychotic or rabid, on
Yahoo.
A cheering band of friendly elves welcomes you to..
The
Colossal Cave Adventure Homepage! Find out more about the
granddaddy of all adventure games right here.
The BBC have revamped the
home page. And now there's a page for those fine people at
Wood Norton
as well..
Heavens, my old employers are there too now.
Castle Transmission International,
known as BBC Transmission before being flogged off, have
joined the information wossname. And if you look carefully
here, you
can see some of my erstwhile colleagues pretending to be hard at work.
(I was hiding when the photos were taken)
NTL still seem to be struck
down with "under construction" fever. Actually, they aren't any more.
That wasn't fair of me, to leave that comment there for so long.
The Bastard Operator
From Hell rides again -- the new stories are here, courtesy of Network
Week, while the originals we've all come to know and love are available
from Simon's pages.
Or if you're even more pedantic about getting the time right,
it may be wise to consult the
International Earth Rotation Service, who are In Charge of
defining exactly what time it is.
A Robert
E. McElwaine Archive - many classic rants from a net.kook par
excellence. You just don't get net.kooks of this standard
anymore. These days they just post Make Money Fast..
The Sock Puppet Gallery - what my former cow-orker
Michael Flaherty (no, not Flatley) appears to
have done to his webspace.
OTHER PEOPLE (Mainly other
readers
of alt.fan.pratchett. They seem to be the only people
I know who have web pages. This says something, I think..)
Colm Buckley
- a former co-worker at Trinity, who's now joined the
Dark Side. Still a jolly good chap, though.
Rob "The Muppet" Collier
- long-term afper, previously a Warwick student, now a suffering
newsadmin (amongst other things). His is a vodka and orange.
Darrell Ottery,
- afp's very own Mr. Bitter And Twisted. Less so now, though.
Sometimes he even smiles a little.
The staggeringly lovely Joann Dominik
pontificates on, well, things in general.
Bryan
won't rip your limbs off. Not usually, at least. Although
with the recent fluffiness of this particular pitbull, it
seems the limb-ripping-off days may be behind him.
Rocky Frisco
- all round star of afp, and a swell fellow to boot.
Mark Lowes
- the arch-revisionist of L-Space, now safely ensconsed in
domestic bliss with, oh well, you have a look and see for
yourself. Also known as the original *vom*ster. Did I tell
you that he had to get someone else to write his own
engagement announcement?
Karen Kru.. kruzh.. kroojha.. oh, just visit
The Vodka Vixen
and find out how to pronounce it for yourself. I should point
out that she's unspeakably nice as well.
Kat Knight is, of
course, unspeakably nice. I would say she was sweet and cuddly,
but I've always had this thing about avoiding pain...
Kat Harris - yes,
another Kat. Same as the above, really. Honestly, I really don't
know how they do it...
Sara Megarry - not a geek
at all. She's been to Boston, y'know.
